Carl Meek has six years of experience living and traveling in Colombia as well as other parts of Latin America. After completing a degree in media production Carl quickly became disillusioned with the corporate media world and decided that his real passion was travel. He immediately set about realizing his dream of traveling around the world on a shoestring including a year in Brazil and frequent trips to Colombia. After a period of journeying and exploring he returned to his native London where he met his wife-to-be, Andrea, and re-trained in social work. In 2006 Carl and Andrea married in Bogota and they soon found they wanted to spend more and more of their time there. Eventually they decided to take the leap and move there permanently, along with their children Santiago and Gabriela.
Carl set up the blog www.thisiscolombia.net to inform people about what Colombia has to offer. He fills his time running a guest house in the town of Villeta as well as being involved with real estate and teaching the occasional English class. Carl is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
Mark Couhig has been a travel writer and editor for more than 30 years. He specializes in bargain travel, both in his writing and in his real life. Mark is currently based in Sequim, Washington, where he handles international promotions for the company. Mark has always made a point of spending whatever meager funds he has managed to accumulate on shoestring international travel, including frequent trips to Colombia.
Carolina Azuero Gutierrez was born in Neiva, ‘the hottest city in Colombia’. She graduated from high school at 16 and immediately came to live in Bogotá to study art restoration. Carolina worked on various conservation and restoration projects throughout Colombia until she won a scholarship to be an intern at a museum in Madrid. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and now works part time as a tour guide at Bogota’s famous Gold Museum. In her free time Carolina enjoys making handicrafts, she has a passion for learning languages, she loves music and singing, traveling, dancing, reading, arts, museums and science… Which apparently makes her a mini encyclopedia! Carolina loves to exchange information with the many visitors she meets on our tours, she speaks English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
